​I started to uncover this piece near the end of summer 2019 after happening upon a number of voluntary and involuntary experiences that have stayed with me until now. Associations with this work have continued to emerge over time. It seems to be something different for each individual creature in our midst, in each uniquely given moment, in each unique state of consciousness. It is an other in the midst of otherness. It is the same as each one of us and, perhaps, an invitation. Structurally, threshold draws briefly from the traditions of tonal theory with an 18th century chorale embedded in juxtaposition with a technique I call liminalation.
